’The Winds Of Winter’ Will Be Finished Before July 2020, George RR Martin Says

The Winds of Winter is, undeniably, one of the most-awaited books to be released today. George R.R. Martin has been working for the upcoming tome for more than eight years already. However, the 70-year-old author has not completed writing it yet up to this writing.

Some followers of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series have been criticizing George R.R. Martin for his slow pace in writing the much-awaited novel. While some remain hopeful that The Winds of Winter will be hitting the shelves soon, a few suggested that GRRM might not be able to finish the book anymore, especially after the Game of Thrones series ended already.

George R.R. Martin has been very vocal that his tight schedule is, primarily, among the many reasons behind the delay of The Winds of Winter. Aside from the Game of Thrones series, GRRM has been writing the scripts of the upcoming five GoT spinoffs. The veteran writer had been traveling to, and fro the United States to attend to conferences and other special events related to his job.

However, the real reason behind the countless delays of The Winds of Winter is the story itself. Initially, George R.R. Martin only planned to write three books for the A Song of Ice and Fire series. However, things changed after his books became a big hit and fans started to demand for more installments.

In fact, if there were eight point-of-view characters in Game of Thrones, predictions suggested that the number would be doubled in The Winds of Winter. Even George R.R. Martin stated that the plots of his books had become more complicated over time.

Despite this, GRRM continues being positive that he could finish the book before July 2020. In his ”Not A Blog” blogsite, George R.R. Martin revealed that he is attending the 78th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), which will run from July 29 through August 2, 2020. The veteran writer said he was asked to become the Toastmaster of the Hugo Awards.

”I tell you this — if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done,” George R.R. Martin wrote in his post. ”Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine,” The Winds of Winter author went on.

Though George R.R. Martin is known for blowing his own deadlines, avid readers of the A Song of Ice and Fire series are hopeful that the book will arrive on the said date. For now, crossing our fingers is all that we can do. Stay tuned to NewsEveryday for more The Winds of Winter news and updates!
